AUGUST 22, 2018 – The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), which recently announced Music for Relief as its official crisis relief program, is appealing to the entertainment community to join forces when disaster strikes by utilizing the expertise and services of Music for Relief to support survivors in the wake of a natural disaster. EIF is circulating a pledge to leaders in the creative community, requesting their collaborative efforts in response to the increasing number of global disasters that affect millions of people each year.
With an advisory council that includes a team of experts in the field of crisis response including Dr. Irwin Redlener (National Center for Disaster Preparedness at the Earth Institute, Columbia University), Regine Webster (Center for Disaster Philanthropy), Marissa Aho (Chief Resilience Officer, City of Los Angeles), Denise Gilliam (Office of Response and Recovery, FEMA) and Graham Everett (Los Angeles Fire Department), Music for Relief will activate in response to natural disasters by providing critical guidance and infrastructure to the entertainment community and mobilizing efforts to best serve those impacted by a disaster.
Said EIF President and CEO Nicole Sexton, “In response to natural disasters, the entertainment community quickly and generously provides assistance to those in need. EIF’s Music for Relief is taking a leadership role in the preparation for disasters that will allow us to access our collective power and magnify our impact for those affected.”
“Disaster relief has played a significant role in the history of EIF,” said Board Chair Chris Silbermann. “Through Music for Relief, EIF continues its service to the industry by offering a gateway to giving in critical times of need.”
Music for Relief maintains partnerships with prominent humanitarian organizations and on-the-ground, grassroots teams to provide aid when and where it is needed. Within 48 hours of a natural disaster of a size and scale that overwhelms community resources, Music for Relief will engage those who pledged their collaboration to deliver critical information from its advisory council and strategize on the creative community’s response. With natural disasters occurring more frequently and becoming more costly than ever before, Music for Relief will serve as the industry’s trusted resource for disaster preparedness and response.
