Updated: March 18th, 2020
On March 11, the World Health Organization(WHO) declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic. On March 13th the death toll surpassed 5,000. The outbreak began in Wuhan China in December 2019 and since it has spread to 147 other countries and regions across six continents. COVID-19 spreads rapidly and the WHO announced that it now appears to have a fatality rate of 3.4 percent (the flu in the U.S. is less than one percent). EIF, through our disaster response program, Music for Relief, has established the COVID-19 Response Fund to address the ongoing and evolving challenges presented by this emergency. Funds will primarily provide relief to people in the entertainment industry who are most vulnerable to the effects of this economic crisis. Additional funds will support the public health response to the threat posed by this virus including the prevention, detection, and treatment of new cases of COVID-19.
EIF is also partnering with health organizations including the CDC Foundation to provide vital information to help people keep themselves and their families healthy. The best resources for getting the most up to date information are the CDC as well as the daily situation reports from the World Health Organization (WHO). Updated statistics can be found via Johns Hopkins University.
